Santa Reparata: the church under the Duomo

Before Santa Maria del Fiore there was Santa Reparata. Excavations, palaeo-Christian mosaics, Brunelleschi’s slab. No standalone ticket: it rides on all three passes. It is the part of the complex where people lower their voices.

In 1296 Florence decides to replace the old cathedral. Santa Reparata stays underneath, rediscovered in twentieth-century digs. Mosaics and wall stumps are the opposite of De Fabris’s façade: fragment, not shop window.

Ticket comparison

Do not buy anything “for Santa Reparata”. Choose the pass for the other monuments; the crypt is structural bundling.

Timing is everything

Right after the nave, before the 16:00 close. Sunday only from 13:30.

The insider entry

Internal stairs after cathedral security. Follow “Santa Reparata” signs; do not walk back into the square hunting a fourth door.

How to save

If you already paid for a pass, do not skip it: it is the least crowded thing already on your QR code.

How to get there

Same square, one floor down.
