Duomo dress code and rules: why they stop you at the door

This is not a design museum: it is a cathedral. Bare shoulders, legs uncovered above the knee, flip-flops, hats on the dome climb: Opera lists them as bans. From 1 March 2025 the dome needs ID matching the name on the pass. It is the most boring reason for refusal.

Duomo dress code searches come from people who already hold a QR and fear embarrassment. A shirt in the bag beats €30 wasted. Full luggage rules sit on the Opera site; this is the operating summary.

Ticket comparison

Rules do not change between passes. Monuments do: worship dress on nave/baptistery; the museum is common sense, not the same list.

Insider

Do not arrive 25 minutes early for a dome slot “to be safe”: Opera asks you not to crowd. Five minutes, stop.

How to save

Light trousers in a pack cost less than a pass remade for tomorrow — which you cannot remake: passes do not change.

Official hours and pass prices: Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, tickets.duomo.firenze.it. Partner (Tiqets) prices as of August 2026; they change.
